This particular dress is made of what feels to be wool or a wool blend. The dress has a deep "vee" in the bust area, a very large band of fabric cut into the waist (this is not an empire waistline however, it slightly cut like one). The "vee' criss crosses on one side. The chest hem, sleeve hems as well as the band at the waist have a quilted effect to them. The sleeve hems have a button closure. There's a zipper and hook and eye closure at centerback. The waist has very small pleats. The lower part of the dress is lined. The shoulders have gathering as well. The fabric is a medium weight black wool. There's a nylon zipper closure at centerback. There is really great darting/flanges on the lower front waist. At first I thought this dress was 60s, but it's more 80s in my opinion. There's a bit of elastic at the waist. The sleeves are short. The bust is darted. The measurements are as follows: Bust: 34" Waist: 24" (stretches to 28"-would be tight) Hips: 38" Length from centerback to waist and waist hem: 14.5"/23" (ther's add'l hem allowance on the inside-the previous owner had the hem raised and I believe the original hem is still there). This dress is in good condition. I cannot find any rips, tears. I did find one very small hole on the inside lower hem (this is hidden unless you let the old hem down).  The inside collar is also very dingy/dirty and needs to be cleaned. This particular dress is so cute and so 80s! The dress is made of a black brocade fabric. The dress has puffy sleeves and shoulder pads. There is a peplum at the waist. The back of the dress is very "scooped" and cut low. There's a nylon zipper and hook & eye closure at the centerback waist. The skirt part of the dress is cut like a pencil skirt. The bodice has princess seams. The measurements are as follows: Bust: 34" Waist: 26" Hips: 38" Length from centerback to waist and waist to hem: 2 1/4"/28" This dress is in good condition. I cannot find any stains or tears. There are a few small places where the fabric is slightly blemished. One is at the very top of the zipper and hook & eye closure at centerback, there is a little slice in the fabric on the seam. The second is at the right waist seam, it looks like the fabric has weakened on the seam and is beginning to create a hole. It's not quite a hole just yet, but it's the beginning of a hole. Lastly, the seams at the princess seams appear to be doing the same thing as the side seam. I don't know if this is because the dress was worn by someone larger than the actual dress and it pulled the fabric or what however, I do think if the seams were reinforced, they would be fine. This has caused the fabric to slightly pull if that makes any sense. All of these issues are only around the waist area. The dress has elastic near the shoulders and I believe the shoulders are supposed to be exposed (the fabric would sit at an angle). There's a matching fabric belt at the waist. The skirt is pleated and pretty full. The dress is lined. Lastly, there's a little scarf/bow that attaches on one side near the shoulders. I think the previous owner made this. I don't know if the dress originally came like this.
