*GIBSON GIRL VICTORIAN*Vintage Wedding Dress XS $850.00 (+ postage of $25.00) Up for your consideration is a really fabulous vintage Victorian/Edwardian (Gibson girl) wedding dress, size xs/small. The dress itself is in two pieces (top and skirt).
The dress is made of a medium weight ivory colored silk faille fabric. There is a separate beaded neck piece that cuffs over the neck and closes at the back with one hook & eye.
The top has long sleeves which come down and end in a point at the wrists. The dress folds over on the left bust area and closes with hooks and eyes. The upper front and back bodice are beaded (the shoulders are beaded as well) and there is an interesting velvet type of yarn attached in a zigzag type of pattern (I don't know what this yarn is called). There's also a thin layer of netting under the beading, almost like veil netting. The back bodice is gathered/pleated at the waist. The bodice is boned. There's also a silk ribbon strap inside at the waist that attaches one side to the other.
The skirt has a built in train and attaches at the back with hooks & eyes. There is a very stiff fabric near the bottom of the skirt to give the skirt more struture.
The measurements are as follows:
Shoulder to shoulder: 13"
Sleeve length: 24"
Bust: 32"
Jacket waist/Skirt waist: 24"/22"
Hips: Full
Length from centerback neck to waist (Jacket: 16")
Waist to hem: (Skirt: 52.5" (remember the back is slightly longer than the front)
Considering the age of this dress, it's in amazingly good condition. The faille fabric is weakened in places and there are some tears in random places (quite a few tears at each armhole and a few on the backsides of each armhole as well as other random places in the dress). There is some discoloration at each armhole as well as other random places througout the dress. The lining on the inside has some discoloration spots as well. The beading and the zigzag velvet needs to be reworked/restored in many places as it's coming off of the dress (I tried to take a closeup pic of the beading and the velvet). Lastly, the inside strap at the jacket waist has a few vertical tears).
I would say this dress is more for a serious collector of drsseses/garments from this period. I am sure it could be worn, but it is very delicate and fragile.
Despite the issues, this dress is so beautiful!
